Over a cup of Earl Grey (the unofficial but very official tea of the Hayford & Rhodes team) and some beautiful, bountiful and blue Hydrangeas at our Bermondsey studio, we hatched a plan to work together on Martha's inaugural #StationerySocial2018.
Taking place at Staple Inn Buildings, an airy, light-filled loft in the heart of the City of London, the Martha Brook #StationerySocial2018 was a special event for the design and creative community, full of all the things we love: Creative workshops, talks, networking, delicious food from Canababes, treats from boutique confectioners Lavolio, tea, cocktails, and of course, Martha's stunning, unique stationery.
The team at Martha Brook ran workshops, including calligraphy, brush lettering and smart phone photography and styling. Our brief from Martha was to bring her pastel-and-paper-pretty Instagram feed to life with flowers using the Hayford & Rhodes touch: Luxurious flowers and high-quality floral design to uplift and inspire.
With a blend of fresh and faux flowers, our team created Pinterest-perfect trellis with fluffy pale pink blossoms, and roses including Garden Pink O'Hara, Angie Romantica and Peach Avalanche. Asymmetry was key: Stylist Nancy Straughan, who worked with Martha to style the event, wanted to feel that our designs would fit in a garden, rather than having purely an inside feel.
Our design for the soft-seating area was a rose-gold vase, full of juicy roses to compliment the main focal. We also added flowers to be used in the flat-lay workshop (flat lay? The birds-eye image of curated and styled items. Like this). Hayford & Rhodes Brand Director, Emma, who designed the floral element of the event said: "An event without flowers is not an event... That's just a fact! I wanted to bring the space to life. Martha's brand's pastels, along with the lush natural light of the venue, meant that our flowers shone and were the perfect focal point for everyone's Insta moments."
Of the event, Martha said: "I wanted to thank you so much again for everything you did. It was a huge success and we couldn’t have done it without you."
